CANDLES

How long will Signature Scent candle last?

Signature Scent candle will last 45-60 hours if used correctly. The reason for not being able to pinpoint exact time is dependant on the oil combination of the candle.  Some oils burn quicker than others. Since we mix oils in-house, in some cases we may use 3 – 4 oils. Out of those oils 1 or 2 may burn faster or slower than the others. It is dependant on the molecules of these oil.

Why do I need to trim my candle wick after each use?

Some candles require trimming after each burn and some may only need once or twice. Again it is dependant on the oils, wax and wicks used.  Some wicks throw stronger scent than others and may need trimming. By keeping wicks trimmed it will prevent the candle from smoking, creating black soot (black residue) on the side of the jar and reduce the flame height. If not trimmed between each burn there is a potential for the wick to mushroom.  (Mushrooming is when the top of the wick is expanded to look like a small mushroom), which could create large flame, smoke and soot on the jar. Large flame may also crack the glass and cause a fire especially if left on for a prolonged period of time.

Why is there black residue inside the glass jar?

That may occur when the candle has been left burning all day, perhaps 8 - 12 hours at a time. Or it may be that the wick was not trimmed before lighting. To prevent that happening follow the candle care instructions. Trim the wicks as per above and avoid burning for more than 4 - 6 hours at a time.

What is the reason for burning candle for 4 hours?

To prevent it from tunnelling. If your melted candle wax (melt pool or liquid wax) has not melted most of the top layer of wax next time you light it, the candle has formed a memory so to speak and will only burn to where it burnt to before. Therefor you may end up with a solid wax mass on the side of the jar. It may eventually drown the wick or the wick will fall to the side of the jar, which potentially will heat the glass where it may eventually crack.

Why do I have to stop burning candle with 1/4cm of wax left?
This is a precautionary measure only.  The lower the wax is in the jar the hotter it becomes. With the combustion and small space for heat to escape, the glass may get too hot and crack or burst.  The lower the wax in the jar the higher the heat levels. This is not to say you can't burn it all the way through as long as you keep an eye on it.  If the jar is too hot to touch then best option is to extinguish the candle, then leave it to completely cool, trim  the wick and light again until the jar gets too hot to touch then repeat same process. That way it will consume all of the wax at the bottom of the jar.

Why is my candle top looking rough?

The rough and bumpy looking top, before and after burning is caused when the hot wax in the melt pool cools and solidifies at an inconsistent rate. This is a natural characteristic of a Soy candle.

Why does my candle look like it has powder on top?

We call that frosting, which is a unique and natural affect of using soy wax. The wax is trying to return to its natural state and as a result it begins to crystallize. This does not affect the performance of the candle in any way.

DIFFUSERS

How long does Signature Scent Reed Diffuser Last?

Signature Scent 140ml Reed Diffuser will last, once opened, at least 6 - 12 months, depending on the oils. Some factors do play in the longevity of the diffuser. Direct sunlight, breeze, air-conditioning, the frequency reeds are flipped and the number of reed sticks you have in the diffuser. The more reeds you have the more oil is consumed. We recommend using 8 - 10 reeds in your diffuser.

Will Signature Scent Reed Diffuser discolour or go rancid?

At Signature Scent we have tested all our diffusers for 18 months to ensure that discolouration does not occur nor will they become rancid. We use the highest-grade oils thus ensuring longevity, scent throw and its integrity.  That is why we are confident that these diffusers will last 6+ months and maintain itheir original form.

What is the meaning of triple scented Reed Diffuser?

At Signature Scent we use the highest grade oils on the market and volume of oils to achieve the strongest scent throw.

How often should I flip the reeds?

We recommend 1 - 2 times weekly, over the sink, ensuring that you wipe the bottle thoroughly before placing on any wood or laminated surface. Oil residue on the bottle may damage the surface and if spillage occurs wipe immediately with warm damp cloth and dry.

Why has my Reed Diffuser lost scent strength

At times some oils seperate from the diffuser base and settle at the bottom of the bottle. Best thing to do is give a bottle a good shake (over the sink and wipe the bottle) to distribute the oils and flip the reeds once or twice a week.
